Phu Quoc by Private Car: Airport Transfers and a One-Day Island Itinerary

Phu Quoc is Vietnam's largest island and one of its easiest beach escapes – about an hour's flight from Ho Chi Minh City and around two hours from Hanoi. Resorts, beaches and attractions are spread over roughly 50 km from north to south, and there is very little public transport, so how you get around shapes the whole trip.
When to visit Phu Quoc
The dry season runs from about November to April, with calm seas on the west coast and clear sunsets. May to October is the rainy season: more showers and rougher water on the west side, but fewer crowds and lower rates. Christmas, New Year and Tết are the busiest weeks of the year, so book your transfers early.
Phu Quoc Airport transfer times
Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) sits in the middle of the island's west side, so most hotels are within 45 minutes. Typical drive times:
Duong Dong town and Long Beach: around 15–25 minutes
Sunset Town, An Thoi and the Hon Thom cable car: about 20 km, roughly 30 minutes
Khem Beach and Sao Beach (south-east): around 30–35 minutes
Northern resorts, Grand World and the Vinpearl area: around 45–60 minutes
The airport is being expanded ahead of APEC 2027, with a new terminal and runway under construction, so allow extra time for departures and follow your driver's instructions on arrival. COA-LIMO checks your flight number in advance and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign.
A one-day south island itinerary by private car
The island splits naturally into a south day and a north day. Here is a relaxed south-island day that ends with the sunset.
Morning – Sao Beach: soft white sand and calm turquoise water in the dry season. Go early, before the tour groups arrive.
Late morning – Ho Quoc Pagoda: a cliffside temple looking out over the sea.
Lunch: fresh seafood in An Thoi or Sunset Town.
Afternoon – Hon Thom cable car: from Sunset Town, the world's longest three-rope sea-crossing cable car runs almost 8 km to Hon Thom Island and its theme park and beaches. Check the time of the last car back.
Sunset – Kiss Bridge: watch the sun go down from Sunset Town, then head back to your hotel.

If you have a second day: the north
Head north for VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari, the canal-side streets of Grand World, the forests of Phu Quoc National Park, Rach Vem beach (known for its starfish), and a stop at a pepper farm or fish sauce house. These sights are far apart, so a car with driver lets you cover them comfortably in one day.
Why a private car works best on Phu Quoc
North to south is 40–50 km. Finding a new taxi at every stop costs time and adds up quickly.
Your driver waits while you're at the beach, the cable car or a theme park, and the plan can change as you go.
Luggage and beach bags stay in the air-conditioned car.
From Kia Carnival MPVs to 9- and 11-seat DCar VIP limousines, your whole group travels together in one vehicle.
