Where to Go in Vietnam from November to March: A Region-by-Region Guide by Private Car

Vietnam is a long country, and the weather from November to March is very different from north to south. That makes it one of the best seasons to travel – as long as you choose the right region for your dates. Here is a simple region-by-region guide, with the private car routes that work best in each season.

Southern Vietnam: dry season and easy road trips

From around December to April, the south enjoys its dry season: sunny days, blue skies and little rain. It is a great time for day trips and short road trips from Ho Chi Minh City.

  • Mekong Delta – floating markets, orchards and river villages. Mornings are best, so leave early by private car. HCM to Mekong Delta

  • Vung Tau – the closest beach to the city, ideal for a weekend. HCM to Vung Tau

  • Da Lat – the highland city is cool and fresh all year, and especially pleasant in the dry months. HCM to Da Lat

  • Ho Chi Minh City tour – explore the city at your own pace with a private driver. City tour

Central Vietnam: watch the rainy season

Central Vietnam has a different climate. From late October to mid-December it is the wettest time of the year, and low-lying parts of Hoi An's old town can flood. Travel in and out of the region usually continues, but plans can change quickly when storms arrive.

  • If you travel in November or early December, keep your plans flexible and check the forecast before long drives.

  • From February onwards, the weather improves and Da Nang and Hoi An become lovely again.

  • A private car helps in this season: your driver can adjust pickup times and routes as conditions change.

Northern Vietnam: cool winter, beautiful landscapes

From December to February, Hanoi and the north are cool and sometimes cold, with misty mornings. Pack a warm jacket – but enjoy fewer crowds at many sights and dramatic scenery.

  • Ha Long Bay – cruises operate year-round; a private car from Hanoi lets you arrive relaxed before boarding. Hanoi to Ha Long Bay

  • Ninh Binh – limestone karsts, rice fields and river caves at Trang An and Tam Coc. Hanoi to Ninh Binh

  • Hanoi city tour – the Old Quarter, lakes and temples with a flexible schedule. Hanoi city tour

Planning around the holidays

This season includes Christmas, New Year and Tết (Lunar New Year), which falls on 6 February 2027. These are the busiest travel dates of the year, so book flights, hotels and transfers early.
